The game
I see a business plan like a board game. Each step of the way, a decision needs to be made. Do you go right or left? Do you stay or go? Do you spend or save? Do you wait or do you act?
Mapping
My consulting work often begins by looking for an answer to a question that has lingered in a business over a period of time. Often the question is about money. Sometimes it is about time. The answer is a plan of action. The plan sets up a linear time frame to manage what you need to think about every day, month, quarter, year. This linear timeline saves you from having to think about everything all of the time.
Each new year provides an opportunity to renew or revise the plan and to reflect on what has been accomplished. At the half year you decide if you need to make any major decisions. Each quarter you review the results. Each month you pay the bills. Each week you schedule the work. Each day you do the work you set out to achieve in your plan. Action is key to making progress, even if there are some obstacles, wrong moves, mistakes along the way.
Connections
Growth often develops through who you know (or who I might be able to introduce you to). I can suggest contacts, resources, trends and places that match your interests and ambitions. Together, we can organize a marketing program to activate these connections to match who you want to work with next.
Building a team
One of the advantages of meeting and working with a wide variety of clients, is that I have built up a good “nose” for human resources. So if you are looking for talent or considering a reorganization of your team, I can be useful in sourcing, negotiating and supporting your staff.
Big Ideas
Every year I take on one or two very long difficult projects. If the idea is exciting, I want to help to see it become a reality.
